# Discovery Cabinet

## Intent

Discovery Cabinet turns close looking into a small collection-making task. The fictional Granovel is a family-oriented artistic exposition with six original seed-like forms. Visitors open a jar, inspect its shape, choose a tray position and carry a personal discovery sheet away as text. Names describe invented forms rather than botanical species. Questions invite observation without claiming germination rates, identification accuracy or growing instructions.

## Signature

Preserve five relationships: six distinct individual containers; an overhead radial table in A; readable lids that lift separately from their contents; a numbered selection tray; and an explicit, finite growth interpretation. The six illustrations differ through wings, a spiral, ridges, a drop, a star and a paired pod. The drawer composition retains containers, practical controls and a personal tray while replacing the radial spatial arrangement with an indexed vertical selection route.

## Typography

Georgia provides generous editorial headings and the object-study voice; Arial supports labels, questions and working controls. Explicit system fallbacks avoid font downloads. A uses a compact invitation beside the table, while B begins with a broad drawer heading. Long descriptions retain ordinary casing and comfortable line height. Lithuanian characters occur in names, the downloaded sheet and a visible footer sample. Mobile headings wrap naturally and all primary instructions remain full-size readable text.

## Color and surfaces

Light paper supports the page; pale moss defines the table and study areas; deep green-black ink carries body information. Burnt clay identifies primary actions and active states. The tray reverses the relationship, placing paper-colored content and clear pale controls on a dark moss surface. Generated tokens own interface colors and focus. Original vector art uses a coherent seed-material palette documented in its asset record. The table should feel tactile through reserved geometry and simple shading, while text stays flat and clear.

## Layout A

The opening invitation states one task and exposes cabinet, plain-list and pause controls. Six individual jar buttons surround a small central seal on a round table. Every jar is a real named button rather than a drag-only object. A seed study and a six-position collection tray follow in a two-column spread. Three observation questions introduce shape, comparison and curiosity. The final growth sketch offers a separate deliberate action.

## Layout B

B begins with a vertical drawer index. Six generous horizontal jar rows form a selection rail, while a seed study and collection tray sit alongside. The visitor can compare an inspected form with the growing collection immediately. The growth interpretation follows before the observation questions. On phones, the complete drawer precedes the study and vertical tray. This is a different browsing and collecting arrangement from A's radial invitation, with different content ordering and information density. It retains the same jar construction and illustrated material language.

## Imagery

All six seed-like illustrations are original SVG paths in a local symbol sheet. Each has a distinct silhouette and a small amount of line detail. The container drawings use an overhead circular body, simple lid and visible handle. Lids lift independently; the enlarged study repeats the selected form clearly outside the container. The growth drawing is an original three-part stem-and-leaf sketch explicitly marked as an artistic interpretation. No photographs, imported models, stock textures, recorded sounds or external biological data are required. SVG is the selected renderer, so WebGL is optional and unnecessary.

## Navigation and interaction

Visible links reach the cabinet, personal collection and growth sketch and open the real sibling composition. Jar buttons and the plain-list option expose all six forms without dragging. A native place selector identifies the next free tray position; occupied places cannot be overwritten silently. Each form can be collected once and removed individually. The count, available places and add state stay synchronized. A real UTF-8 download lists filled places in their current positions and includes original observation prompts. Collection data stays in this browser and survives reloads and composition changes.

## Motion

The opening spread settles in 700 milliseconds and can be deliberately repeated. A expands jars around the table; B opens its drawer rows with a short lateral displacement. A selected lid lifts in 350 milliseconds and returns on close. A collected form lands in its chosen tray position over 400 milliseconds. The explicit growth action reveals three short drawing stages in 900 milliseconds, then stops. Pause, relevant-region visibility, hidden-document handling and cleanup bound animation work. Reduced motion applies informative final states immediately, without hiding any ordinary content.

## Responsive behavior

Desktop A places a large table beside its invitation and keeps inspection next to the tray. B uses a drawer rail and a practical collection column. Tablet widths reduce side space and object-label size while retaining real control targets. At 390 and 360 pixels the radial table remains bounded, with an immediate simple-list alternative. Inspection and the tray stack, and each collection place becomes a horizontal record with its remove action. The drawer becomes a full-width vertical sequence. No essential action relies on hover, a drag gesture or horizontal panning.

## Accessibility

Provide one h1, a main landmark, a skip link and ordered section headings. Each jar has a useful accessible name and exposes its open state. Large illustrations are paired with ordinary descriptions; the small repeated jar artwork is decorative inside its named button. Native selects and buttons retain focus visibility on both paper and dark tray surfaces. Live messages describe actual collection changes and storage failures. Checks cover six accessible choices, keyboard use, real downloads, restoration, four widths and finite normal/reduced/API-blocked modes. These scoped results do not certify future adaptations.

## Adaptation

Replace the six illustrative objects with a coherent original or licensed collection while keeping individual containers, inspection and numbered selection. A craft kit, mineral study or museum handling set can use the same relationships with its own accurate descriptions. Verified educational facts need owner-provided sources rather than invented labels. Preserve a literal list alternative and an honest local-storage boundary in another platform. The full creation brief includes project, audience, content and composition fields, so a new project can retain the direction without copying the fictional seed names.

## Avoid

Exactly three deviations damage this direction: using six copies of one generic seed silhouette; making collection depend on dragging or hiding choices behind a decorative animation; and presenting the stylized growth sketch as factual biological prediction. Keep the collection export current and let visitors use the complete cabinet without WebGL. Local-storage failure must leave the in-page task and download available.

## Closest styles

Botanical Engraving uses fine plant plates, accepted-name records and a classified reading sequence. This direction uses individually opening containers, a radial or drawer interface and a personal collection task, changing imagery, navigation and structure. Playful Cutout uses assembled paper-tool illustrations and activity chapters. Here overhead jars, material inspection and a numbered collection ledger create a different composition and interaction rhythm. Compare actual ready desktop and phone frames from both neighbors rather than treating a shared warm paper palette as proof of either similarity or distinction.
