WEAVING NOTEBOOK / 01

Weave a two-colour cloth
and download it as SVG.

Set the density, pick a warp and a weft colour, then choose plain, twill or basket weave.

02 / YOUR TRIAL

Every change redraws
the whole field.

Warp and weft make the pattern. This is a drawing, not loom instructions.
WARP ↑ / WEFT →LN / 18 / P
An SVG field of threads.
Weave

A self-contained vector file with no external resources.

03 / THREE STUDIES

Three samples to start from:
plain, twill and basket.

Load one into the trial, then change any setting.

A dense plain-weave pattern of green warp and linen weft
01 / PLAIN

Small, even repeats.

Plain weave: each weft thread passes over one warp thread and under the next.

A graphic twill pattern of green and rust threads
02 / TWILL

The diagonal leads the eye.

A shifted run of threads creates movement, even though the sample itself stays still.

A looser basket pattern of paired rust and linen threads
03 / BASKET

Paired threads, more linen.

Basket weave: threads run in pairs, with more linen showing between them.

04 / PROCESS

Three steps
to a sample file.

  1. Choose two colours.

Start with two colours you want to see side by side.

  2. Change the structure.

Density changes the number of threads; the weave decides which direction shows on top.

  3. Download the file.

Download the vector file and copy the settings for your next conversation.

05 / ENQUIRY DRAFT

Start from
your pattern.
